My Purpose: Glorify God
Bible Journaling entry for Acts 17:28

Have you ever wondered, “What is God’s purpose for my life?”

There have been seasons when I wanted God to hand me a detailed roadmap for my life. I prayed for direction, searched for my calling, and wondered whether my everyday responsibilities really mattered to Him. Maybe you’ve been there too.

Life can feel overwhelming when you’re trying to balance work, family, and your relationship with the Lord — all while quietly wondering if you’re missing something bigger He has for you.

When your days are filled with responsibilities, it’s easy to wonder whether you’re making a difference or simply trying to keep up.

Here’s what I’ve learned: God’s purpose isn’t reserved for pastors, missionaries, or people with extraordinary talents. And it rarely arrives all at once. Acts 17:28 reminds us that “in him we live and move and have our being.” Our lives find their meaning, direction, and purpose in Him — and that changes everything about how we approach the ordinary moments of our days.

Because our lives are rooted in Him, our purpose is not something we create for ourselves. It is something we discover as we walk with Him.

What the Bible Says About Your Purpose

Many people spend years searching for their purpose, waiting for some dramatic sign or a perfectly timed open door. But Scripture gives us a clear starting point.

The chief end of man is “to glorify God and enjoy Him forever.” While God gives each of us unique gifts, opportunities, and assignments, our ultimate purpose remains the same: to know Him, love Him, and glorify Him.

This truth takes so much pressure off. Instead of chasing one perfect calling or trying to map out every detail of the future, we can focus on faithfully honoring God wherever He has placed us today.

What Jeremiah 29:11 Teaches About God’s Plan

Jeremiah 29:11 says: “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

This is one of the most beloved verses in the Bible because it reminds us that God has not forgotten His people.

Though originally spoken to Israel during a season of exile, it still reveals something true and unchanging about God’s character. He is working for His glory and our ultimate good — even when life doesn’t unfold the way we expected.

When circumstances feel uncertain, we can trust that He sees the full picture and is guiding us according to His perfect wisdom. His plans are always bigger than our immediate situation.

Trusting God to Fulfill His Purpose

Psalm 57:2 says: “I cry out to God Most High, to God who fulfills his purpose for me.”

David wrote those words during one of the hardest seasons of his life. Yet even in the middle of difficulty, he trusted that God was still at work. The same is true for us.

God doesn’t abandon His plans when we face obstacles, delays, or disappointments. He continues working behind the scenes, shaping our character and drawing us closer to Himself.

When we cry out to Him in prayer, we’re acknowledging that He is the One directing our steps — and we can trust Him to accomplish His purposes in His timing.

How to Align Your Heart With God’s Will

Psalm 37:4 reminds us: “Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.”

When we delight ourselves in God, something beautiful begins to happen. Our desires start to shift. We find ourselves wanting what He wants.

This is one of the most important things I’ve learned about seeking God’s will: prayer isn’t just about asking Him to bless our plans. It’s about surrendering our plans so they can align with His.

God often reveals His will one step at a time rather than all at once. He gives us what we need for the season we’re in. As we spend time with Him — in Scripture, in prayer, and in quiet listening — our hearts gradually become more attuned to His leading.

This process takes humility, obedience, and trust. Sometimes His direction leads us outside our comfort zones. Other times it requires patience while we wait for Him to open the right doors. But as we learn to trust Him more fully, we discover a peace that doesn’t depend on having everything figured out.

Glorifying God in the Ordinary

Glorifying God isn’t limited to church services or ministry activities. It happens in the small, unremarkable moments of everyday life.

If you’re a busy woman juggling work, family responsibilities, appointments, and endless to-do lists — or you’re the one everyone else leans on, it’s easy to assume purpose is something you’ll discover later when life slows down. But God often works through the ordinary responsibilities already in front of us.

I Corinthians 10:31 says: “So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.”

That’s a remarkable statement. Every task, every conversation, and every ordinary Tuesday becomes an opportunity to honor Him when it’s done with the right heart.

That might look like showing patience with your children when the day feels impossibly long. Serving a coworker without expecting recognition. Encouraging a friend who is struggling. Managing your finances with integrity. Speaking words that build people up. Using your gifts — whatever they are — to help someone else.

The goal isn’t to make much of ourselves. It’s to make much of Him.

Finding Fulfillment in God’s Purpose for Your Life

Many people search for fulfillment in achievement, recognition, or success. But that kind of fulfillment never quite satisfies. Lasting fulfillment comes from living the life God designed for you.

Ephesians 2:10 reminds us: “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”

God has given each of us unique gifts, talents, and passions — and when we offer them to Him, we discover a deeper, quieter kind of purpose that doesn’t depend on applause or outcomes.

Whether your gifts are teaching, encouraging, creating, serving, leading, or something else entirely, God can use them. The only question is whether we’re willing to offer them.

Practical Ways to Walk in God’s Purpose Every Day

Walking in God’s purpose isn’t a one-time decision. It’s a daily practice of turning back toward Him.

Begin With Prayer

Start each day by asking God to guide your thoughts, decisions, and actions. Even a few minutes of honest conversation with Him sets a different tone for the hours ahead.

Spend Time in Scripture

God’s Word helps us understand His character, His promises, and how He calls us to live. The more time we spend in it, the more familiar His voice becomes.

Use Your Gifts

Look for opportunities to serve others with the talents God has given you. Don’t wait for the perfect platform — start where you are.

Honor God With Your Choices

Live in a way that reflects your faith and points others toward Christ, even in the small decisions.

Stay Connected to Other Believers

Encouragement, accountability, and fellowship strengthen your walk in ways that are hard to replicate alone.

Encouragement

You don’t have to have every detail of your future figured out to walk in God’s purpose.

His purpose often unfolds one faithful step at a time, and Acts 17:28 anchors us in that truth. In Him we live. In Him we move. In Him we have our being. Our purpose isn’t something we have to manufacture or discover on our own. It’s already woven into our relationship with Him.

As you spend time in prayer, study His Word, and seek to honor Him in the everyday choices, you can trust that He is leading you exactly where He wants you to be.

So today, what is the next faithful step God is asking you to take?

Maybe it’s spending time in prayer, serving someone in need, opening your Bible, or simply trusting Him with an unanswered question. Whatever that step may be, take it knowing that God is faithfully guiding your path.

Faithfulness in the ordinary is often where God’s extraordinary purposes begin.
